There continues to be confusion over the position of the Reston Citizens Association (RCA) with respect to an endorsement statement on the Reston Association (RA) election put out by the Coalition for a Planned Reston (CPR).

The RCA is non partisan and does not endorse specific candidates for contested offices.  We see our role as providing a forum where all candidates for office are given an opportunity to present their vision and debate the issues of the day.  We respect and appreciate the civic impulse that leads individuals to seek public office and wish them all well – without picking favorites.

RCA is a founding member of CPR and we endorse most of the positions and actions of that organization.  We do not, however, endorse specific candidates for office.  Earlier this month we asked, repeatedly and in the strongest terms, that no statement supporting specific candidates be issued as coming from CPR, fearing, as has happened, that this would be confusing and misleading.

As an alternative, we noted that the individual organizations that make up CPR were free to issue endorsements if they chose to – IN THEIR OWN NAME.  We regret our request wasn’t honored and apologize for the distress this has caused.
